It's being original that counts." ~ John Bonham The B/B kits are easy to identify by looking at the plys on the toms - the Bubinga is very dark compared to Birch or Maple.
The only Birch Starclassics I've seen in the UK are pretty old performer sets and all seem to have deep toms 12x10, 13x11, 16x16 or 10x9, 12x10 and 14ft - but the UK is a smaller market so maybe we didn't get the full range of Tama stuff here.
After doing a Google search, it would appear you're not the only one complaining about the new mount design.
